Selected as part of the "London Selection" of the Straight8 2020 film festival.

Straight8 is a film festival where all entrants have one Super 8 cartridge on which to shoot their film. The film is shot/exposed with all editing/effects/etc. done in camera and sent to the festival for processing without knowing what it looks like. The composer even has to score the film without seeing it. The soundtrack is then emailed to the festival where it is synced up to the scanned roll of film. The filmmakers only see the final result after it has been judged and, if they are selected, they have to wait to see the final result at the premiere!

A music video from my album Bedtime Stories for a Fainting Goat. I made giant silicone gel filled marionette puppets for the water bears that were filmed in high speed and then slowed down in the edit and purposely made to look amateurish and fake. I also designed and constructed the set for the lab, along with doing foley and sound design for the beginning/end segments.

A piece I shot, edited and graded for Beckon that profiles the artist Angela Gonzales and her creation of a commissioned piece for them.

A music video for the band Zen Arcadia. I worked with the bass player who came up with the concept, made the models and directed the video. I was responsible for cinematography, visual effects and grading. We used a xbox Kinect camera to capture the band in 3D and then processed the 3D data in After Effects. Learn more about the making of this video.

I was commissioned to create a series of short looping music videos for Goddamn Electric Bill’s most recent album Dead Alive. The album art was created by Owen Gildersleeve and we decided that each video could be revealed behind the framed images—maintaining a connection to the album art while providing a “stage” for the animation to take place on.

Occasionally I like to produce my own projects. This video was made for Pipe Dream Giraffe Productions, our own production company. The Albany Bulb is a small strip of landfill that juts out into the San Francisco bay. At one point the Bulb housed a homeless community, a public library and a sculpture park. This film documents the artwork installed along the shoreline.

A music video I made for an album I released. This video combines both digital and practical techniques to create a unique take on the “helmet cam” video genre. I created all of the effects and animation along with the cinematography (and writing and recording the music).
